Heritage
Built in Payson. Proven in the field.
Payson Sheet Metal, Inc. traces its roots to Dale Barnett’s early sheet metal work in the Payson area, growing from residential beginnings into commercial mechanical work across Utah — and eventually into specialized institutional programs nationwide and worldwide.
A timeline buyers can trust
- 1948–1953: Dale Barnett begins in the trade locally, then serves in the Army during the Korean War before returning to Utah.
- 1954: Payson Sheet Metal begins — early work includes residential heating, expanding into commercial projects across Utah.
- 1965: Adds testing, adjusting, and balancing capabilities for commercial fan systems.
- 1976: Energy management program work expands; begins long-running relationships with major institutional clients and worldwide temple programs alongside other large commercial work.
- 1994: Gary DeGraw named president (later retiring).
- 1996: National SMACNA Contractor of the Year for the United States and Canada.
- 2009: Shop building remodel in Payson.
- Today: ~16 employees; Rusty Barnett serves as president; work continues on mission-critical and institutional projects.
What the heritage implies
Mechanical credibility is earned in decades, not adjectives. Payson’s story is one of field discipline, long relationships, and verification work that holds up when buildings are occupied.
